Compusory Basic
Training
The CBT is made up of five elements and only when all five elements
have been satisfactorily completed, a certificate of completion, called the DL196, is issued. This is a legal document which
validates the relevant entitlements on your driving licence. A CBT certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles
once the rider has reached the age of 17 years and has the necessary licence.
Category P
We can train you up to test standard if you are between the age of 16 and up to the age of 17 and are only legally entitled
to ride mopeds with an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc and a maximum design speed not exceeding 31mph.
Category A1
We can train you to ride up to test standard on a light motorcycle licence (A1), which restricts riders to any bike up
to 125 cc and a power output of 11 kW. You would opt for this type of training if you only wanted to ride a bike with an engine
size no bigger than a 125cc after you have passed your Driving Test. The practical test must be taken on a bike of between
75 cc and 125 cc.

125 Standard Licence
We can train you on a 125cc motorcycle up to test standard, from 17 up 21 this is the only option open to you, however
if you are over the age of 21 and would like to gain more experience before moving on to a larger bike you opt to take restricted
licence training.

Restricted Licence (A2)
We can train you up to test standard on a 125cc motorcycle if you are 21 years old or over and do not want to train on
a larger motorcycle. After passing the standard motorcycle practical test, you will be restricted for two years to riding
any bike of up to 25 kW and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg. After this you may ride any size of bike.

Direct Access (DAS)
When you are age 21 or over we can train you up to test standard on a 500cc motorcycle. You can take the practical test
on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 35kW. After passing your test, you can ride any size of motorcycle that you
want.

Refresher Lessons
It's a sad fact, but riders returning to biking after a long period of time
without training are more vulnerable and are likely to be involved in an accident in their first two weeks of riding.
If you think training is boring, try to look at it as development. After
all, if you were trying to improve your golf swing or your tennis game, you wouldn't think twice about taking lessons with
a professional.
So if it's a long time since you rode a bike, consider taking a basic training
course, this will ensure your riding skills and road awarness are up to date and refreshed. Don't learn the hard way - the
school of hard knocks can be a very painful way to learn and in some cases you don't graduate.
We are now extending our Training program and need to recruit DAS qualified instructors.
We need one or two DAS qualified instructors who can work on
a contract basis with perhaps a weeks notice.
Ideally would suit someone on shift or working for another
ATB.
Emphasis is always on Quality not quantity.
We are looking for is someone who has the flexibility to fill
our Training program on a casual basis and at this point we are not offering full time work.
Not Interested in Geared Bikes
If you want to take the Practical Test on a fully Automatic Scooter, you apply to take the 125 Standard Licence
Test (A2) Restricted Licence.
When you have passed the Practical Test your Driving Licence will show that you are only entitled to ride Automatic
Scooters.
You have a Restriction period of 2 years (same as the bikes) before you can move onto a Scooter that has a
larger engine size.
